What Coterie connects to today, and what's on the roadmap.
Overview
Coterie is a hosted platform — most of what it connects to is infrastructure you won't need to configure yourself. The exceptions are the pieces a creator can bring their own credentials for.
Coterie does not have a public developer API today. There's no way to integrate with your community's parties, posts, reviews, or contribution programmatically yet.
Social platforms
Coterie is intentionally platform-independent. It doesn't require members to connect a social account, and it never posts, comments, likes, shares or follows on a member's behalf on LinkedIn, Instagram or anywhere else. Members publish on the platform of their choice and simply share the link with their Coterie.
What a member does after being matched with someone's work — reading it, replying to it, sharing it, or nothing at all — is entirely up to them. Coterie doesn't automate, require or verify any action on the destination platform, and it never will: that's a deliberate design choice, not a missing feature.
This is also why Coterie tracks participation inside the platform (completing a review, contributing to a session) rather than external actions like likes or comments. See Community Participation Guidelines for the rules every Coterie owner agrees to around this.
Sign-in
Members and creators can sign in with:
- Email and password
- GitHub
There's no magic-link sign-in currently.
Coterie sends transactional email (invites, session reminders, application decisions) through Postmark by default. A creator can override this and configure their own SMTP sender for their community, and can customize the copy of individual system emails per-tenant.
AI Assistant
The Coterie Assistant is bring-your-own-key: a creator supplies their own OpenAI API key to enable the chatbot for their community. It's disabled by default until a key is configured, and runs with a configurable daily message cap.
Data and storage
Coterie is built on Supabase for its database and file storage.
Hosting
Coterie runs on Fly.io, including provisioning for custom domains when a creator enables white-label branding.
Payments
Billing is not live yet. Creators can define paid plan tiers (name, price, interval, features) in their settings, but there's no checkout flow connected — joining and running a Coterie is free for now.
What's not here yet
- A public API for third-party integrations
- Live billing/checkout for paid plans
- Direct posting or engagement through social platform APIs — Coterie works by members sharing a link to content they've already published, not by posting on their behalf
